Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in Knoxville

Just over a decade ago the world was without a Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame(WBHOF). As the proud home of the University of Tennessee Lady Vol’s, the citizens of Knoxville realized that it would be up to them to fill that void.

After the culmination of several years’ worth of work the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame opened in 1999. There is no other facility like this in existence. It is a must-see for any young woman or girl who is interested in playing basketball.

As you approach you cannot help but see the building. The most striking outdoor feature if the world’s largest basketball. This ball weighs approximately 10 tons and is visible for miles.

Inside the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in Knoxville are hundreds of artifacts that relate to women’s basketball history. A 15 minute video gives visitors a good introduction to the hall of fame. Visitors will enjoy seeing official rule books from a century ago, antique and vintage and medals that have been donated by star athletes.

Families and couples who are interested in basketball will enjoy visiting the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame. The exhibits succcesfuly bring the history of women’s basketball to life. Visiting can take 2 hours or can easily fill an entire afternoon.

It is also a good visit for couples. Tour the exhibits and enjoy a special afternoon together. If you enjoy sports you will enjoy your visit.

When it comes to kids’ activities the museum shines. A wide variety of youth programs are available. Youngsters can attend a summer basketball camp or have their birthday party at the museum.

Educational programs are specifically designed for kids from kindergarten through fifth grade. Special programs are offered for Girl Scouts. Group rates are available.

A popular program of the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in Knoxville is the “time out” camps. These give schoolchildren, day cares and camps a special “time out” from their regular activities. Groups get a special tour and organized games on the ball courts. The fun doesn’t stop there. Groups can also enjoy popcorn, pizza and more!

Free parking is available on site. If you are coming from the downtown Knoxville area the lot is in the back of the building. Hours vary by season. Check their website for information.
